  1. Fast Fun Multi-Surface RC Car Review by ben

I highly recommend that you purchase or obtain an additional 9.6 rechargeable battery for the vehicle.
I bought two of these at Wal-Mart for something like $36, marked down from $88 or something like that.
It can charge on top of grass at an impressive clip. A five or six year old child will have a very hard time keeping up with it even when running. It is a marvelous way to exercise kids because they see it and they instinctively bolt after it, it is very funny to watch.
I don't have any kids, but my neighbors do, and they apparently adore it. After several minutes, I usually turn into a nice guy and let one of the kids try driving it. Sigh.
    Watch out for ankles!
But, yes, batteries are very good for ten to fifteen minutes. It is a very good idea to obtain another 9.6 rechargeable battery. (Posted on 7/13/2012)

  2. Battery charger failed after a month Review by Midwest Dad

The battery charger failed pretty much right away. We played with 3 or 4 times and then we're out of luck. Purchased on 5/1/12 at $66 from Amazon. By July 7, the price dropped to 39. We were past the one month period of returning so we have to purchase a charger, which is not sold separately from the battery. Unfortunately it's about the same price as a new car. It's disappointing that we can no longer manufacture anything cost effectively in the US and have to deal with Chinese junk now-a-days. (Posted on 7/6/2012)

  3. My worth it Review by Esther Trujillo

I got it out of the didn't work send it back have not got it yet paid for it five weeks ago just got a letter that's out of stock now who know how long it will be they won't even give me a discount for all my trouble DON'T BUY IT head ach I which things could have came out better (Posted on 6/16/2012)

  4. Wow! Fast, Fun, Easy to drive. Review by An Engineer "Happy Shopping!"

I got this as a gift for a friends 2 year old boy. I figured because it can run on either side if flipped would be more enjoyable for the little man. After the friend and his boy played with the car I heard nothing but thrilled comments. They boy loves playing with it and seems durable to take the abuse. The boy can play with the controls and flip the car and keep going, great for lazy fathers like me that don't want to keep chasing the car down when it gets flipped over. A great learning car!

As for speed, don't get me wrong it won't do 60mph but it is plenty fast for the little man and still enjoyable for dad to play to ;)

    Happy Shopping! (Posted on 6/7/2012)

  5. Listed as NEW - NOT! Review by Wagcollectibles

Poor rating is due to the item being sold as new, but wasn't. The shipping box was fine, and there was no damage from shipping. The actual package this Tonka RC car was in, had been opened previously. The car was not new and had been removed from the package. Package was torn on both sides and you can see that the car had been pulled out, tearing the packaging. Very disappointed. This was a birthday gift for a twin grandson, no time to try to get the NEW car I paid for. I always try to buy directly from Amazon, and I've never had this happen before! Since Amazon didn't offer the other color Tonka R/C I was forced to buy it from a dealer for the other twin. The dealer says its shipped, hope its not used too and sold as new! Got the Tenergy double 9.6V battery packs today too (from a dealer). They were new as advertised! Don't seem right to have to pay to ship this back then reorder another one and hope that its NEW as it was promoted. Can't give one boy one (if the other dealer's toy is as advertised) and not have the same style and car for the other one for his birthday. Can't find these locally. Shopped for hours on Amazon comparing, reviewing and finally make my decision to buy these and then have this happen. Just though other buyers should be aware that apparently not all of these cars sold by Amazon are New as listed. Haven't decided what I'm going to do at this time with this used car. Will give feedback again in a few days when the other car arrives from the other dealer and let you know if its New as advertised and if so how it works. UpDate: The other car has arrived and the packaging was in worse shape then the first one. Tears, tape, looks used! Had an email from another seller explaining that the packaging on these toys are always in rough shape due to the open design. He explained that the toys were probably not used just suffering from poor design on its box.
So I went ahead and opened these up. Both cars were still in good condition, batteries, chargers were still sealed in place as new. Both chargers, batteries, cars worked properly. Overview: Fun toy, works great. But if your buying this as a gift be aware that the packaging is in sad shape, making the toy look like its second hand or used. (Posted on 5/28/2012)

  6. Worked for 30 seconds at a time, Tonka replaced it Review by Tim A. Monahan-mitchell

The first one we got would work for 30 seconds, and then stop responding to the controller. It was not a battery issue, I had extra batteries for both the car and the controller. Another experiment showed that the speed of the wheels would decrease after each 10 second interval, finally stopping after the 30 seconds. Both car and controller had to be turned off and on again to get another 30 seconds of play. The first on-line chat session with Tonka got me a replacement controller, but the problem still persisted. The next on-line chat with Tonka got me a return label for the car, and they sent a whole new toy that worked. All this with no proof of purchase, so my compliments to Tonka. One other minor complaint, I had to put a square of foil in the controller to take up extra space so the batteries would stay in contact. But otherwise a fun toy as advertised. (Posted on 5/25/2012)

  7. Super cool remote control cars! Review by P. Elkins

Bought one of these for each of our nephews and they are AWESOME! These are the most rugged and wild remote control cars I have ever seen. They jumped rocks and climbed hills - flipping around to come back after rolling over. These things are perfect for boys 5 years and up! Oh - and forgot to mention that these are wicked fast too - don't get in the way or you might get knocked down. :) (Posted on 4/17/2012)

  8. Great RC toy, but a few words of caution Review by Joe Church "Joe Church"

I bought this RC toy with great expectations of hours of fun each day as my kids and I play with this. The very first day I took it out of the box and literally within the first 10 minutes of play, I (yes, me not my kids) drove it (accidentally) into the storm drain on our street. Because its not tall and can do flips and keep going, its short and just short enough to drive right into the street-side storm drains. It fell 3' into standing water and is now ruined. Money wasted.

The toy itself is actually well made, very fast and lots of fun. But beware, its short profile makes it easy to lose or damage.

The un-inflated tires people talk about in the reviews are not a problem at all. It gets good grip/traction and can go fast on solid ground or over leaves and other terrain. We got good range from the car and remote.

The only downside practically is that the battery takes a very long time to charge. Something like 12-18 hours. So if you want to play for a long time and not have to wait a full day in between turns, grab a spare battery to go with this purchase. (Posted on 4/12/2012)

  9. Amazing Vehicle - Highly Recommend! Review by markoman "markoman"

I bought 2 of these for my kids - 1 for each. They are incredible! Super Fast, runs over anything, and is generally super fun for both adults and kids. My kids are 10 and 7, it took them a little while to figure out the controls (as they cars are so fast), but are now experts.

    I would have 2 complaints:

    - The battery that comes with it doesn't last very long - 15 minutes, so buy another battery. The one we purchased is a 30 minute battery, so they will at least have 45 minutes of play
    - The battery door has 2 small screws, that I am concerned will strip, although the haven't. I really wish they had used a snap mechanism of some sort.

But, highly recommend and have fun! (Posted on 4/1/2012)

  10. Great durable toy for our 6 year old son! Review by Anne Marie Will

We found this Tonka Ricochet on for 1/2 the price as other toy stores. Our son loves r/c vehicles so we thought this might be right up his alley. It is! On Christmas Day he ran it into a steel stake, which cracked the front a bit, but hasn't hurt its performance at all! It does flips, turns very well, and is so quick! Highly recommend! (Posted on 3/30/2012)

  11. Tonka tough, battery a little weak. Review by A. Darling "darlingswe"

Our nephew is a little younger than the recommended age of 8+, so I was a little wary that this toy would be broken. That has proven to be no problem:
The Pros: Looks good/tough, this little boy is not easy on his toys! The remote control covers decent range and the car is very fast. The tires are soft so it helps with cushioning crashes into the dogs or his sister.
The Cons: A little hard to control (the turning is VERY sensitive), Battery life is not very long, difficult to get to battery compartment, needs a small screwdriver, I know it's a safety thing, but for 8+ year olds, maybe a thumbscrew would be better option. (Posted on 3/27/2012)

  12. Great first r/c car. Really durable and super fun! Review by Charles Maise "chard"

Bought this "like new" used. Arrived in great shape, perfectly seated in its original packaging for my 5 year old. He loves it! Lots of fun, super fast and durable. This r/c car is great fun. It flips, does tricks and almost can't get hurt. The record trick function is a little difficult, but I'm not too concerned about it. It takes roughly 3.5 hours to charge the battery and runs for about 20 minutes, which is plenty enough time for my son to play with it. We take it to empty parking lots and fields to run it around and have a blast! It's Tonka tough and my son gives it a beating running it into curbs and jumps and trees. We make sure to keep it in on rainy days, though. Do not use it in the house. It is too fast and heavy for careening into legs, animals and lamps. (Posted on 3/26/2012)

  13. This is for big boys!!! Review by Casey Good

This is for big boys!!! I bought this for my 3 year old son, but wow my husband gets more out of it then I could have ever imagined. I didn't expect it to be so big. This R/C car is amazing... so durable. Yes my 3 year old can use it and he crashes it into everything... I recommend this for OUTDOOR only! (Posted on 3/19/2012)

  14. Wonderful remote control car! Review by Annette Lewis

I purchased this car for my 10 year old grandson and he loves it! Every time he plays with it, he discovers a new stunt that the car can do! (Posted on 3/14/2012)

  15. Lot's of fun Review by Scott

This is a very fast RM vehicle. It really is not ment for indoor use, but is great outside! I would have given it 5 stars, but the battey requiring a screwdriver to change can be a pain. (Posted on 3/12/2012)

  16. Fast! Review by Kenneth Wygant

I was surprised at how fast this thing is. It is very durable and will bounce off anything that gets in its way. The only down side is I purchased this for my son to play with in our large open basement and it is almost too fast to use for that purpose. Once Spring hits, he will be playing with it outdoors, which is likely much more fun anyway. (Posted on 2/6/2012)

  17. AWSOME! hahahaaaaaaaaaaaa Review by LarryLaptopLobster

    This toy is the bomb!
I purchased this for my 4.5yo daughter for christmas, (maybe for my inner kid also ;)
What attracted me to it was the thought of not needing to go over and put this cat back on its legs every time it landed upside down and thats the way it is. flips upside down and keeps rolling on!
Has plenty of power but i recommend also getting the double power secondary battery <a href="">Tenergy 9.6V 2000mAh NiMH High Capacity Battery Pack for RC Car, Robots, Security</a> and it lasts even longer and charges with the device supplied with this.
It drives on the road and through puddles, snow, ice, grass, mud & sand. Verified and tested by me.
Crashed it into a few poles, rocks, trees. Drove it down concrete steps and it still soldiers on.

Wouldnt pay the extra $ for the different color car though, that seems silly.

Anyway, definitely worth a buy! (Posted on 2/5/2012)

  18. Fun but disappointing battery life... Review by Beth H.

When this thing runs, it is great. However, my son can only play with this for approximately 15-20 minutes before it runs out of charge. Seriously Tonka??? They should have designed it to have a better battery life. With that being said, at least it's durable when it comes to construction. Overall, it's entertaining and fun while it is has a charge. :) (Posted on 1/31/2012)

  19. Great Toy Review by mightycaptain

So far have been very impressed with this toy. Runs as advertised. The only drawback is the battery, lasts 15 mins after 4 hours of charging. (Posted on 1/28/2012)

  20. Awesome Review by Little man

Having so much fun watching it flip and do tricks! Wish battery would last longer but still enjoying it! Tonka is an amazing company that still makes toys for children and solid long lasting product. (Posted on 1/27/2012)

  21. Awesome car Review by kelly l obrien

Very good car runs like a champ would recommend to anyone with sons!!! Very durable and fast battery lasts for like 2 hours or so. My son loved playing with it, easy to steer and as i said before very durable. Takes corners like a champ and the stunts are very cool! (Posted on 1/20/2012)

  22. LOVE this car!! Review by L. Thornell "2 boys mom"

I bought this for my 9 year old son for Christmas, as he had seen it in a catalog and thought it looked cool. I didn't realize how big it was. It has a long run time and it drives over almost anything in our yard and the woods! It's a really good R/C car! (Posted on 1/20/2012)

  23. Gave as gift Review by Darrin "HandStands"

I gave this to my 9 year old as a Christmas gift and he absolutely loved it.

It is very well built and has taken a good beating yet continues to go. The range is great. The remote responsiveness is great. It's tons of fun.

There are only two cons. The first is that the charge only lasts about 15 minutes of intense play and then you have to recharge for 4 hours. But those 15 minutes are pure joy! The second is that you are cautioned against getting it wet! Hello! this is an outside toy and any kid is going to run this through a puddle. (Posted on 1/18/2012)

  24. Tonka Ricochet Review by stacty313

Great toy. Very durable and lots of fun. Great price and fast shipping. True to description and pic. Thanks for a great transaction. (Posted on 1/18/2012)

  25. Sam's Grandma Likes Tonka Ricochet R/C Replay Blue & Green Review by Grandma G

My grandson loved this toy. It has a lot of speed and needs to be played with in a large room like a basement or outside. He still plays with it when his parents charge it which is not real often as it is a pain to recharge it. Otherwise it is a great toy for a 5 year old boy. (Posted on 1/17/2012)

  26. Battery doesn't charge after 1 use Review by Sid001 "Sid001"

We charged the battery on Christmas day and took the truck outside to play with it. Only ran for 20 minutes until the battery died. Tried charging it again and the battery would not charge. I have a very sad 7 year old. (Posted on 1/16/2012)

  27. This is great - for 15 minutes Review by F. Farmer "Cassandra Knowles"

First of all, this car is HUGE! I was expecting a smaller car but this is at least two feet long! It's really great but the main problem is it only runs for 15 minutes and has to charge up for FOUR HOURS!! This I discovered upon reading the directions. So yes, for 15 minutes, it's a total blast. Had I known, I would have gotten one that runs for much longer. (Posted on 1/16/2012)

  28. Real Fun for Real User Review by Wrobi

This is an awesome RC Car for the money. Very durable, easy to drive and able to handle just about anything. The battery life is really good compared to other cars as we bought 3 different ones for Christmas. All had unique features, but this one keeps on going and outlasts them all. Lots of fun and would recommend to anyone, especially smaller kids (10 or under) because it is easier to drive with front stearing as compared to left and right drive to stear. My dogs may not like it, but kids love it! (Posted on 1/15/2012)

  29. Reviewed and Pleased Review by Happy Mom

My husband and I wanted to get our son a remote control toy that would last. We had purchased cars, helicopters, etc. in the past but they were never able to stand up to the kind of play that a boy could put it through, or a 37 year old man for that matter. Anyway, I read the reviews on the Tonka Ricochet R/C Replay and was willing to give it a shot. We were very pleased with the results. My husband and son even took it out to the desert where we live and it survived all that they were able to throw at it and kept going. I was afraid dirt would get into the mechanism and ruin it but it did great and kept going. The battery life is short but I read on another review that someone purchased additional batteries and that is what makes this work. My son wouldn't be able to handle the short life span to continue to play with it but with the additional batteries, we just change them out and he is off again. We bought two additional batteries so he has play time of 45+ minutes. Christmas morning was a hit and our 10 year old loves his remote control car. I would recommend this for the price, it is a good deal. (Posted on 1/15/2012)

  30. Charger Failed Review by Dr. Thomas Schares "MedWing"

To get to the battery to charge it, one has to use a phillips head screwdriver to open the compartment every tim. Now at less than 1 month both chargers have failed (bought two, one each of my two boys) (Posted on 1/14/2012)

  31. Defective out of the box Review by Yours Truly "bitem"

The RC did not work properly out of the box. Made for a dissapointing Christmas morning. We called and they said others had had this issue, and had us send it back for a refund. They could not offer a replacement. Looks like it would be fun if it worked, but didn't. (Posted on 1/13/2012)

  32. a fun toy Review by A Customer

The tonka remote controlled car is so much fun! It never crashes and the body of the car doesnt get all messed up. It does all sorts of tricks and flips. It has a really cool device that lets you save your most recent tricks in 4 memory slots! I think you should get this remote controlled car. Amazon had the best price on this ANYWHERE. (Posted on 1/6/2012)

  33. super fast and fun! Review by snoopygirl22

We bought this for our 3-year-old for Christmas because he kept asking for the youger kids' Bounce-back Racer version. After reading the mediocre reviews for that one I decided on this even though it appeared to be a little advanced for him. I was right, but it was well worth it! My son loves it, but he is very timid about controlling it by himself, so my husband and I get to have all the fun while he happily watches. I know in no time at all this will no longer be the case, so I'm enjoying it while it lasts!

I also bought an additional battery because many reviewers said it drained quickly, but we haven't needed it yet. It's just too cold to stay outside with a kid his age for very long, and it is a bit too powerful to have an extended session in our small house. It is also much larger and sturdier than I expected, so that makes it more cumbersome in the house as well. It can be done tho, just not at its full potential.

On Christmas day we took it out and jumped it off of our 4-step concrete stairs and out into the asphalt street, over curbs, grass and dirt with very minimal scratches, and it never got high-centered. I even managed to get it up on two wheels for a short stint!

Overall it was an excellent purchase, and I'm glad I left it in my cart for a few days because the price fluctuated greatly before Christmas, and I ended up getting it for $39.99.

My only advice it to know that you will get the greatest enjoyment out of this thing outside in a large space where you can really let it loose. (Posted on 1/4/2012)

  34. Great remote control car Review by Heidi H Beach

This is a great remote control car and it really flies. If only the battery lasted more than 15 minutes per charge. If there was a way to purchase another battery pack that would be better as well. (Posted on 1/3/2012)

  35. Good fun, but..... Review by S. Lipman "Carpenter"

Pretty durable, very fast, good response to remote control, lots of fun ...But. Lasts only 15 minutes on a charge, then 4 hours to recharge (no more and no less so you can't plug it in and forget it). Also to recharge it you must unscrew the top panel with two small screws (using a mini Phillips screwdriver - not supplied), and remove the battery. Replace and re-screw when charged. I doubt if small screws going into plastic will continue to hold the panel down for long before they strip out the plastic. (Posted on 12/31/2011)

  36. Great r/c car but dangerous for inside house Review by Scott

A quick review of this remote control vehicle is, it is one of the most durable and well-built r/c's we have ever purchased, which would include many in recent history. While this vehicle is the most durable and best for the money paid, it simply is too dangerous for any usage inside the home unless you have a clear place without any type of furniture, or walls. :) It moves super fast and is best to be utilized outside of the home, but this is not to discredit the toy as I believe it is truly one of the better buys and best toys we have owned. Parental duties are essential in monitoring what your child does with the toy, certainly inside the home. Enjoy this Tonka. (Posted on 12/31/2011)

  37. Tonka Ricochet remote control vehicle Review by soso

This is a must for a tired owner of a herding dog!! My dog heads it off at the pass if he can catch it! Tons of playtime for a busy canine! (Posted on 12/30/2011)

  38. Love this one! Review by Matt

Thank goodness for a toy that is as tough as my son! Love it! My son has had hours enjoying this car. (Posted on 12/29/2011)

  39. Great toy for a rough little boy! Review by snickerdoodle

The 8 year old grandson loved the Tonka Ricochet R/C race car. It was very fast and a great toy for him. The car has rechargeable batteries which helps. This is not for younger children. (Posted on 12/29/2011)

  40. Amazing RC car for the price Review by David R.

I got this for my 3 and a half year old son for Hanukah. I was hoping for a better RC car than the $20 radio shack one I got him last year, and this was a cyber-monday deal. Boy was I pleasantly surprised -- this thing jumps and goes over everything except deep leaves (which leave it no traction). It goes quite fast as well. The controller is small and easily handled by my son's small hands, and it's easier for him to use than the "gun style" transmitters many RC cars have. Car so far has not only survived the rough terrain on our 5 acres, but also our German shepherd chasing it and biting at it and my son laughingly sitting on it to protect it from the dog.

Only complaints -- the "record stunts" feature doesn't seem to work very consistently, and the rubber tires sometimes come off the rim a bit and need to be slid back into place (the dog may be responsible for having dislodged them in the first place as she ran alongside and bit the tires while the car was going at full speed). I don't care too much about the stunt replay anyhow -- key is that it goes fast, over rough terrain and is solid -- we're having lots of fun with it. (Posted on 12/27/2011)

  41. fantastic rc car Review by onomatapeia

great remote control car. can keep going over fairly rough terrain even if it flips. Only downside is rechargeable battery takes 4 hours to charge and only gives 15 minutes of play time. (Posted on 12/27/2011)

  42. Tough Review by Chad M. Newkirk

Tough, fast and fun. Bought two for my sons 6 and 3. Both figured out how to control them in 30 seconds. One stops working after about a minute. I did the troubleshooting than called Amazon. There sending me out a new one free of charge. Excellent customer service. (Posted on 12/26/2011)

  43. TONKA RICOCHET R/C REPLAY Review by diamondjime

  44. Great fun. Review by Leigh

I purchased the Tonka Richochet R/C Replay Blue & Green for my 8yo son, he absolutely loves it. Controls are easy to use and he has quickly learned to gain good control and do some tricks. The battery doesn't last very long but spare batteries are reasonably priced and well worth it. (Posted on 12/26/2011)

  45. Fun, Fun, Fun!!! Review by Hazel

I bought this for my nephew's (12 and 10 yrs) for Xmas. They loved them! They were doing tricks and chasing each other with their cars. The whole family wanted to play with them. The older "boys" wanted to play too. Should have bought them all one! Recommend this product 100%!!! (Posted on 12/25/2011)

  46. only 15 minutes of battery life Review by Erica K. Schisler "erica"

This toy sucks! First - the package says that it is ready to play from the box. It is not. It takes 4 HOURS to charge the battery. Then there is only 15 minutes of play with a full charge! Try explaining any of this to a kid. I can't believe what I paid for this - for that- 15 minutes. But even worse - you have to unscrew the battery area to put it in. You have to do this every time you need to charge the battery! and the screws are tiny. We had to go out and buy a special screw driver just to open this thing. And, I have no doubt, that the top of the screws will be stripped very soon because they are so small. Whoever designed this is an idiot. (Posted on 12/25/2011)

  47. Wish I bought more when the price was lower Review by Family Guy "Steve Q"

This was somehow $39.99 when I bought it. Had I known how much fun it was I would have purchased more. My 4 year old son loves it. Super fast and super durable and has great range. Buy extra battery packs if you buy this as you only get 15 minutes or so of play when fully charged. (Posted on 12/25/2011)

  48. Crying on Christmas Review by SKnotts

Christmas day my son patiently waited for his battery to charge so he could play with his new car. Less then 20 minutes later he was back in the house crying because the car no longer worked. It needs to be charged for 4 hours so you can play with it for 15 minutes. Save your money and prevent the tears. The car is loads of fun until you realize all the more battery life it gets which makes it all the more frustrating since your kid cant play with his awesome new toy for another 4 hours. 49. Fast and Fun! Review by J. Crowell "Jonafan"

I read several reviews and watched a bunch on RCMania's website before settling on this one. I ended up ordering three of them, one for me and two for my 7 year old nephew for Xmas presents. The car is very fast, and will run over all sorts of obstacles. The fact that if it gets flipped over and can keep running is a huge plus for anyone that had to chase down there toy after it flipped over and became about as helpless as a turtle on its back. The soft tires are grippy and are great fun on pavement, grass or gravel. It's tough especially when my nephew seems to crash head on into any rock, tree, patio table, person, you name it and it still is in one piece. We ordered some of the extra batteries off of this site to keep it going. You can buy longer lasting batteries for not much more... I think we spent $35 for two 2000mha 9.6v batteries and another charger which last about twice as long. I definitely think that you will not be disappointed especially if you get them for around the 29.99-39.99 price range that I've been seeing on Amazon... At toys-r-us and kmart they 89.99. Go for it! 50. Great Deal!! Review by Evelyn Biava

I am a big kid and convinced my wife that my boys needed one of these cars so I bought one to share "for them." It was pretty easy when you can get the blue and green car or the yellow and red car for under $40. These cars are huge and rugged. I have looked or played with r/c cars my whole life and I have never seen a car this big for that price with the battery included. I have also never seen a battery that will really last much more than 15-20 minutes so when people complain about the battery, they just were naive. Pretty standard. These cars are also built like bricks. I have had cars that you hit a wall and they break or start to fall apart with little use. These cars can really stand a beating but I guess with anything, the perfect storm could break them. These cars are over 12 inches long so they are better suited for a large area and would not be ideal for indoor use unless you had a large open space.

The cars do run on 24GHZ. I could not find this information anywhere and was worried you could not run two cars at the same time so that is why I only bought one at first. Though I have not personally had two cars out at the same time yet, the instructions do say, "Multiple RICHOCHET STUNT PRO vehicles can be operated at the same time."

What a deal! I am buying a second one so I can better "share" with my boys. (Posted on 12/16/2011)

  51. SUCH A DISAPOINTMENT Review by smart shopper

This toy has to charge for four hours and only lasts for 15 minutes!!! When it is charged, it is AWESOME. But my children were sooo disapointed that it only lasted 15 minutes at a time. Then, after only 1 day, the wheel had a big gash in it. And because of the charging time, that was only about 45 minutes of use. Pass on this expensive disappointment. (Posted on 12/8/2011)

  52. Crazy Car Review by MikeB "Torres"

This is going to be a Christmas present for my 4 yr old son, but I had to take it out and give it a try before we wrapped it. Now I'm contemplating whether or not we should give it to him. This thing is fast and can be hard to control. There is no way he is going to be able to really use it inside. We were going to get him a bounce back racer, but I felt that was just to simplified and he would lose interest. This by contrast may be way to advanced.

The short test drive I did give it was after it had just rained and this thing was spinning all over the place. I was able to control it after some practice, but I was never able to get it to flip because it could never get enough traction on the wet pavement. It did go over some grass, but it's definately not made for that type of terrain. I'm sure it would do excellent on any hard surface, but in tall grass this thing is not very fun.

I haven't tried the memory feature, but honestly this is just a gimmick that the car doesn't need. It performs well on it's own and doesn't need gimmicks. I'd say it reaches speeds of 15-20 mph (my guestimate) and the speed and turn porpotional controllers work well. The range is also nice. I was about 50 feet away having no issues controlling the car. Build quality seems good. I drove it off some curbs and into some curbs and it never flinched.

Overall I'm satisfied with what the car is, but if your contemplating giving this to anyone under the age of about 6, I'd think twice. (Posted on 12/4/2011)

  53. Hope my grandson enjoys at Amazon 10 stars Review by barbandbob "web shoppers"

I ordered this as a Christmas present for my grandson and it arrived a few days ago. To my dismay, when shopping today, I noted the product was reduced by some $20 over what I paid for it. While I rated the toy 5 stars, I don't know if it truly deserves them (my grandson will tell me more after he plays with it) but I had to give this transaction such high ratings because when I contacted Amazon via chat, they unhesitatingly refunded the difference and the whole thing took less than 5 minutes. Amazon is the best!!! (Posted on 11/29/2011)

  54. not a good car Review by Amy Berthiaume

This car is very hard to move around and is very confusing. My kids were frustrated with it after two days. It now just sits there, no one wants to play with it (Posted on 11/28/2011)

  55. great toy for older kids Review by Richard J. Brzostek

This car is a great toy for older kids. It can move very fast so it isn't ideal for inside use. It will quickly bump and slam into everything when you drive it inside. It is a lot of fun because you can make it flip over and keep going. It is also smart in the sense that when it is flipped over, the forward controls make it go forward (even though the car goes the other direction when it was on its other side - if that makes sense).

The battery charges fast so that is great too. You can have a lot of fun slamming into everything and flipping the car over and over. (Posted on 11/24/2011)

  56. Powerful and fun Review by R. W. Price "v 3.0"

The Tonka Ricochet is great fun. It's a durable and surprisingly powerful RC toy.

The lightness of the vehicle seemed cause for concern, but I believe the light construct actually makes the toy faster and less likely to bust on hard impact. On flat surfaces, this guy can really get rolling, and in grass it still chugs along at a decent clip.

As with all remote control toys upon first play, it may take some time to get the feel of the remote--to gradually adjust speed and turning degree. The AAA batteries it came with didn't last very long (two days of play), but the Duracells I put in have lasted several hours so far.

The flipping action for which the Ricochet is named is fun, but you'll have to remember that, when upside down, the forward/backward lever works in reverse. The record feature is neat, but I think most kids will have more fun with just live action play.

The 4 hours of charge time can feel like a long wait for a mere 15 minutes of play, but this is pretty typical of RC cars. Be patient and you'll be rewarded! (Posted on 11/17/2011)

  57. Ridiculously fun! Review by Sean Hoade

This RV stunt car is, first of all, GIANT, much bigger than I was expecting. This would be very impressive under the Christmas tree. Also, it's responsive and can flip over and ram into things without hurting the vehicle (because of this ginormous tires) -- and let's face it, one of the super-fun things about an RV stunt car is RAMMING IT INTO THINGS! I can't really think of any educational value for this toy, but it would provide some very satisfying parent-child time. FUN!!! (Posted on 11/9/2011)

  58. Tonka Ricochet R/C Replay is a Durable Crowd Pleaser Review by Michael Yovkovich

I got this racer for my nephew who is 11 years old and he had an amazing time playing with it. As other reviewers have mentioned, the top feature of this racer is the durability, as this racer can take a lickin' and keep on tickin'! My nephew ran it into concrete walls and it flipped over seamlessly and kept racing like nothing happened (definitely living up to the title of the Ricochet). The replay feature is cool at first, but quickly loses its luster as my nephew was more interested in doing new tricks instead of re-watching old ones. A major negative for the product though is the poor battery life, which really is the only reason I've docked this toy 1 star. If Tonka can figure out a way to improve in the battery area, they may have a perfect product on their hands. (Posted on 10/26/2011)

  59. Rugged Review by Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome "Vascular Ehl...

I love this toy due to the rugged durability it offers. Hard plastic body protected by the wide forward design of the tires. This product is made to stand up to the abuse boys can deliver. Kids learn hand eye coordination while having fun! Great gift item. (Posted on 10/25/2011)

  60. Tough RC truck with replay Review by C. Boudreau

This RC truck is very similar to other Tonka RC's, but it has a recording and replay feature rather than the Monster Lift as an example. The replay feature works but doesn't add much fun. It feels like a gimmick to provide differentiation. The kids enjoy the Monster Lift feature on the other Tonka RC much more. It turns the low riding and long truck into a monster truck.

The battery life is very poor. The instructions say to charge it for 4 hours to get 15 minutes of run time. Depending on how much you are truly driving the care while you play with it, 15 minutes of run time might be around 30 minutes of play time. Frustrating.

It seems to be very sturdy like our other Tonka RC is. We've crashed it a lot and there are no signs of any problems.

The first few times the kids played with this RC, they thought it was very fun. "Awesome" was the word that they used. After the third time, they lost interest. They haven't asked to pull it out in weeks. Definitely, the poor battery life is part of the reason, but it just doesn't have a lot of replay value. (Posted on 10/21/2011)

  61. The Record Feature Is A Hit Review by E. A. Montgomery

I tested this car at a party with 25 12 year olds. It's durable. Believe me, it took a beating. The wheels are soft enough to have some give, not a hard rubberized wheel, so the ability of the car to run over small obstacles in it's path was excellent. One of the small obstacles was the <a href="">Tonka Ricochet R/C Rampage Flip</a>. The R/C Replay is far larger than the Rampage, treating it like a speed bump. The Replay is also easier to control. The kids found it slightly slower but still able to maintain a good speed with a longer response range from the control unit. Programming the replay aspect for tricks was simple and most picked it up without instruction. This is a great car for a first time user, simple to use and showy enough to entertain. It's definitely sized for the outdoors, I wouldn't want the Replay slamming into my walls very often. (Posted on 10/6/2011)

  62. fun toy Review by T. Gaston

This has been a fun toy car. Battery length is approx. 15 min, which can be viewed as a pro or a con, depending on your point of view. And our dogs delight in pursuing a fleeing vehicle, but the second it comes toward them, they run to hide.

    - batteries included
    - easy to follow directions
    - remote control easy to use
    - toy is durable, has withstood several major crashes without damage to it or the obstacle
    - runs on all surfaces and over many obstacles
    - stunt movements can be recorded and replayed

    - screwdriver needed to replace batteries
    - battery recharge time is about 4 hours (Posted on 9/27/2011)

  63. lots of speed on any surface Review by Kipp Poe Speicher "Kipp Poe Speicher"

This thing moves had a lot of fun running it through the back yard through grass and dirt. Being an indie filmmaker it is also great to mount a camera on to give you an interesting perspective. Hope to get another one soon to race one another. Now I just chase the dog around. (Posted on 9/27/2011)

  64. Awesome Tonka Toy! Review by MJC "mjc"

This toy has been a blast for me and my 4-year-old son. For the money, it's a great remote controlled vehicle. It's been durable enough that I'm not worried about letting him use it.

Fast with lots of torque- it will spin the tires if you floor it.
Durable - we've crashed it, flipped it, jumped it, driven it through wet grass... This thing is made to do stunts.
Remote is pressure sensitive - some remotes seem to be from 0 to 100% with nothing in between, even when you just push the throttle forward halfway. The Tonka's is appropriately sensitive. If you push it about 1/3 forward, you'll accelerate and drive more slowly, 2/3 is faster, all the way is fastest.
Stunts are pretty not too hard to master and reasonably intuitive. My 4 year old had driven a cheap drug store RC car that lasted about 3 hours before self-destructing. It had a different RC mechanism, so the Tonka's traditional two-stick style was new to him. By the end of his second session of driving it, he could steer it around in circles at low to medium speeds and could make it flip.
I wish RC cars were 1/4 as cool when I was a kid. This thing is really fun.

Not PRO's (not really CON's though)
Longer battery life and shorter charge times would always be nice, but the battery lasted longer than I expected -- probably 20 minutes, minimum. There are lots of online sellers of extra batteries, just search google. Buy a couple extras. As mentioned, the battery replacement for this car is probably it's one design error. You have to remove two small philips head screws. Of course, the well sealed compartment is probably why it has handled being rocketed through puddles without showing any signs of damage.
Tires can partially dislodge from their rims and become wobbly after a bunch of spin-outs. They just pop back into place, with ease. (Posted on 9/25/2011)

  65. Awesome Toy! Review by David "Foxboy"

Sturdy and tough construction. Tonka quality, even though they outsourced it to China. It is quite large and the kids just loved it. It has large soft rubber tires, so it will not damage furniture, but it's still best outdoors. Everything about it is good, it even has two and bottom, in different colors. The controller is well designed and is even programmable (best for 12 and above in my view, younger with help). I thought it was a boy's toy, but girls love it as well. The batteries all come with it and a recharger. I found it entertaining for even adults. This would make any kid very happy. The low design, big tires, and stability make it a insane fun toy for the family. (Posted on 9/23/2011)

  66. As much fun as you'd think. Review by Jackie M "Literary Escapism"

    The Pros:

    * Speed: To give you an idea of the speed we're talking about, it was twice as fast as an energetic four year old running full tilt. Try as he might, my son simply couldn't keep up with the Ricochet.
    * Durability: To test it's durability we ran it into a tree several times, ramming it again and again, flipping it over the roots and running it 2 feet up before it would fall down again. We also took a few hard runs at a telephone pole- it bounced off harmlessly. The only thing we did notice is that with hard cornering, the rubber tires needed to be re-seated on the rim. A minor detail for the beating that it took.
    * Range: The range was impressive, running about 50 yards before it became unresponsive. A 50 yard straightaway is plenty of room to run wild, especially with little kids chasing it.
    * Power: We ran the Ricochet over both grass and blacktop- it obviously ran better on the asphalt, but running in the uneven grassy park made it bounce and jump.

It's also worth noting that this was an excellent way to torment my parent's yorkie- he wasn't sure whether to attack it or fear it. By the time the battery wore down, the poor dog was trembling with adrenaline and trying to chew the wheels off.

    The Cons:

    * Battery Life: Speaking of battery life, a full charge will give you 15 minutes- that's it. It warns you on the instruction book, but that still doesn't soften the disappointment when it starts to slow. Keep in mind this is using one of those rechargeable 8-pack-of-AA-Batteries-taped-together battery packs. You trade power and speed for battery life, but it's mostly worth it.
    * Battery Cover: If you're making a toy with a 15 minute battery life, you better have a darn good battery-replacement mechanism. Instead, they have 2 very tiny screws that are recessed in the lid- within a month I'll have at least one (if not both) stripped. Take a page out of the Leapfrog Explorer, which has a giant slotted, spring-loaded screw- you can open it with a butter knife if you needed.
    * Turtle Syndrome: The cool thing about the ricochet is it can flip 180 degrees and drive upside down. What it can't do is get off it's side if it lands "edge on" on the wheels. It justs sits and squirms until you kick it onto all 4 wheels.

    The Meh:
    * The record feature: The remove included 3 buttons- 2 green bumpers on the top and one big green button in the center. It wasn't until I read the instruction manual that I found out that the buttons (when used in combination with a 4-slot slider) could record movement macros that you could play back later. This may sound great on paper, but the implementation was buggy-you had to press and hold the play button to get it to run, half the time you weren't sure if it was actually playing or recording, etc. I'd rather have seen those buttons go towards tricks.
    * Educational value: This is not an educational toy- Don't kid yourself. You could argue that there are lessons to be learned about velocity and momentum, but don't. It's an RC car- an incredibly fun *toy*. Just be content with that.

My son was incredibly upset that he couldn't play with it. I promised him after then next charge it would be his turn. Or perhaps the charge after that...

If you have kids, get one and make up excuses about how you have to test it before they can play with it- once they get the control, you won't get it away from them. (Posted on 9/23/2011)

  67. Fun For All Ages, Human and Canine Review by Tara

I'm an adult who is never going to grow up. Period. So I had a lot of fun with this thing. I raced it around my living room... it even does back flips (The husband managed that.) I also raced it around my back yard. Yes, it works in the grass too. Didn't get stuck once. My pug thoroughly enjoyed chasing and barking at it.

The lowdown: It's a decent size, has huge tires which enable it to do many things (the back flips and such), BUT accessing the battery compartment to charge or recharge or re install the battery requires you to unscrew the door every time. As I don't just leave screw drivers laying around my house, I found this to be a tiny pain in the butt.

Otherwise, I dig it. I especially appreciate that the battery in the car is rechargeable. It can also "record" your trick combinations though I didn't enable this feature. No point. I didn't do anything that fancy. (Posted on 9/22/2011)

  68. Fun for the whole family! Review by M. Brown

When I received this toy in the mail everyone in our family from our 6year old to our 16 year old (and even my husband) was excited. It took everyone about 15 minutes to rush outside to get a turn with this RC car. The controls are easy enough that my 6 year old can work them and the car does enough tricks and other cool things that my 16 year old love it. This is a great toy for any guy or gal at any age who is looking for fun they can share with a wide range of people or just enjoy by themselves.

The RC is also durable enough that it will stand up to almost anything you run it thru or into. I would recommend this RC to anyone and I'm even considering ordering another one. (Posted on 9/21/2011)

  69. Wow! (for starters) and WOW!! (for fun-factor)...Eh (for length of playtime) Review by Gregory E. Foster "operabruin"

I ordered this WONDERFUL car for my great-nephew, and upon arrival my ability to withstand trying it out lasted just about long enough to get it out of the box!! Growing up poor, the opportunity to have toys like this was not a possibility, and the "kid" in me is STILL present (as I bet it is in about 80% of all adults)!

So, after charging this baby up, I took it out into the hallway outside my apartment to try it out. However, indoor playing is really nowhere near as much fun as outside in a driveway or parking lot, due to the speed of this great car, so indoor play is severely hampered by space issues. I took it to a parking lot at a nearby school, and willingly became a "kid" again....until my 15 minutes of "exhilarating and rollicking excitement" came to an end.

I LOVE THIS TOY, and would eagerly give it 5 stars if the difference between 4 hours to recharge the batteries for 15 or slightly fewer minutes of play-time were not so far out of balance with each other. What kid really wants to wait another 4 hours to play for just 15 minutes again, including myself!!?? It should therefore come with a spare battery, even if the price were to reflect such...15 minutes is just too short a time to play with a WONDERFUL toy like this one is. Luckily, one can order a spare, and I shall do so shortly, maybe even two spares! At my age, and for as much as I love this car, I need to get in all the play-time that I can!

Fun? YOU BET!!! And, it Certainly GOES like Hell-on-Wheels!!! It is extremely well made, and I am sure it will stand up to rough handling/playing for some time (Tonka certainly has always had that reputation for their toys, and this one seems no different in that respect). Blue on one side, and it flips over to an electric green color, which is really kool. The "trick" factor I found really a lot of fun, especially when it flips and it changes color. The control piece is easy to operate, and I cannot imagine that a child would have any difficulty operating it. Also, the recordable feature in order to replay tricks and maneuvers is really GREAT for when you want to "do it again", etc.

My great nephew will have to wait for Christmas to get his (I've already ordered it)...this one is MINE! Ah, the joys of retirement and Second Childhood!

  70. Great RC car. But BIG. So mostly for outside all terrain fun. Review by microeconomics

The unit itself seems durable and well constructed. It is fairly straightforward to control and the kids picked up using it within a minute or two. The one thing that was surprising about the toy was it size. It is pretty big for a remote car. This isn't a problem, just a note. The size of the car really makes indoor activity impossible or very difficult without damage to something. The car itself is mostly all tires and wheels - so this helps a lot from actually denting anything, but it doesn't take much to dent the leg of a chair, or cabinetry.

Overall, the car is a lot of fun outside, it tumbles really well and fun factor for the kids is great.

They really don't use the recording functions or the playback, they are in the moment and are simply not thinking that far in advance. :) I wish I was like that more ...

Anyway - the car itself is great and seems well constructed with simple and intuitive controls, the other recording functionality is kinda gimmicky - but fine. (Posted on 9/21/2011)

  71. WOW! Lots of PEP Review by Colt S. Kline "Maison_de_Douglas"

This is a fun car to play with. It's has loads of pep. She'll move! The turning radius is decent and it could be better. I like the variable speed and turning with the controller. The green/blue colour combination fits great with my personality. The car seems to be pretty durable thus far. One thing that I noticed, was that the left-rear tire wants to slightly unseat itself from the inside. The tires are not aired up. Although they have a bit of a cushion.

The book states that the battery will hold out for about 15 minutes of continuous play. I found that to be true. I first noticed it getting weak when I start to loose control at a distance. I would have to raise my controller up to re-establish a signal. So, if you want to play with for longer than that, you'll need additional batteries. Recharge time is 4 hours. The charger light indicator will blink when charge is complete. I love that part. Just make sure that you remove the battery from the charger before 5 hours.

The battery has an auto disconnect feature if the car reaches excessive temperatures. With the limitations of the battery, I personally feel that a larger battery should be used. And a slight redesign of the car to accommodate it. (Posted on 9/21/2011)

  72. Big, tough and speedy Review by D. A. Ross

Well, this is the first R/C vehicle I have used in quite a few years, so it's amazing to see how the cars have progressed over time. The Tonka XT Ricochet Stunt Pro R/C is a well-designed, fun car that will provide hours of fun (albeit at 10-15 min intervals) for kids -- or adults who want to relive their childhood (ahem, such as me).

In the box, you get a two-sided stunt car, each side painted a different color, wireless 2.4 GHz remote, battery packs and charger. Here are some of the pros and cons I have found after spending some time with the stunt car:

    * Easily one of the fastest r/c cars out there. This will shoot across the room in a split second, which is impressive given its size
    * Steering controls are precise and accurate, and there's even a steering trim adjustment on the front of the vehicle (on the blue side), should the alignment be a bit off. Very cool
    * Surprisingly smooth transition when the car flips over. There is no lag time between the remote and car; it just keeps going!
    * This thing seems to be built like a tank (gotta love Tonka for that)
    * The remote has the ability to record several stunts, so you can recreate them at the touch of a button. This feature is more of a novelty and will unlikely be a major selling feature. It works well, but I think most kids will prefer just to drive the car around freestyle

    * Initial charging time is 4 hours, which, sadly, yields only about 10-15 minutes of actual play time
    * The battery must be removed in order to charge it again, which requires unscrewing the housing cover. Kind of a nuisance
    * The price point might be a little high, $65-75 being a better price range

The remote does have a multi-channel feature, should you have two of these bad boys racing around, but I haven't tested this out to truly know if it functions well or not.

A longer battery life would really make this car a 5 star, but I think you'd have to sacrifice speed and power in order to achieve that, so there's the trade-off. Overall, a great buy and a fun toy that will certainly withstand any abuse a child can put to it! (Posted on 9/20/2011)

  73. Runs like a bat out of he** Review by Amy Henry

This is fun, and there'll soon be a battle over who gets to play with cool tonka toy. Ricochet is the name, and that's the best description for what it does....It goes super fast, and if it hits something it will flip and head in a new direction, or veer off. An uneven surface will make it flip as well and keep going, never losing speed. My younger son and 18 year old were giggling outrageously as they played with this.

    A few things to note:
    (1) Once you get it, you have to charge it (even though it comes with batteries). That means you'll have someone drooling over it while you wait.

    (2) A full charge is supposed to last fifteen minutes, but it was more like five minutes. Really. That wouldn't be so much of a big deal except for below:

(3)To recharge it requires a screwdriver and an adult to undo the plastic body, take out the battery pack, and charge that with AC. Alot of work after five minutes play. AND, being that the body is made of plastic, after a time I could see the screws stripping the plastic from being removed so often. It would make more sense if there was an AC plug in the body of the truck that let you recharge it without undoing the whole casing (which is how some games do work). For a toy this expensive, why can't it have a charge easier than this?

    (4) Be sure to hide cats and dogs. They will go nuts. The sound is scary and it's so fast that I seriously think a cat might not get out of the way in time. To avoid trauma, lock them up!

    (5) The body of this seems durable and strong, as are the tires. Overall, other than the charging issue, this is a solid toy.

I hope you find this review helpful. (Posted on 9/19/2011)
